Cult center of Nazca — Cahuachi settlement
Nazca culture for many years continues to amaze not only many archaeologists and historians dealing with the theme of the ancient history of the peoples who inhabited the southern part of the American continent. And among such places of antiquity, as the capital of the Inca Cusco, or Iximche main mound civilization in May, a separate item worth mentioning Cahuachi largest religious and ceremonial center of the Nazca civilization.
Purely architectural, fort Cahuachi several towers over the Nazca and positioned thereon giant images. According to many scientists archaeologists settlement existed for Cahuachi from I to V century AD. In particular, to the conclusion reached by the Italian archaeologist Giuseppe Orefichi, which for over two decades conducts seasonal excavations Cahuachi.
During this period, he managed to unearth more than forty mounds which are the basis for some religious buildings made of clay. In this case, in the opinion of another major researcher Ellen Silverman (Helaine Silverman), who wrote a book on Cahuachi and history of this unique settlement, residents Cahuachi was not much, most likely it was the priests and guardians of this sanctuary Nazca civilization.
In addition to it as a result of excavations, archaeologists have found quite a number of ritual objects, which are usually used by pilgrims to perform certain religious rituals.
Another interesting fact was discovered by researchers found among giant picture on the Nazca Plateau found stylized figures of animals such as whales and monkeys, which in this region are absent by definition. And if in the study of certain historical territory with time we get answers to many questions, in the case of Nasca and Cahuachi going a slightly different process, new facts open to researchers fed all the new questions that have no answers yet.
