Scientists say that Newgrange is the oldest known prehistoric structure on the territory of modern Ireland. And it is no wonder that it is considered the most famous. It is believed that this place appeared around 3100 BC.
The basis of this structure was the sand, clay and stone. Interestingly, by the way, note that the pyramids in Egypt will be built only five hundred years. Newgrange is a mound height of over 13 meters and a diameter of 85 meters. Inside this structure is similar to the corridor that leads to the location across the chamber, consisting of a vertically mounted monoliths. their weight is 20-40 tons. It is assumed that it was someone else's disposal.
Entrance to the tomb marked by a circle of stones, the height of which is one and a half – two and a half meters. Along the perimeter of the tomb is surrounded by a circle of stones set vertically. All of these stones, the walls of the corridor and the walls of the burial chamber are decorated with ornament, which consists of zigzag lines, circles and triangles, but it is most common image of the triple helix. By assumption, scholars, this image can be associated with the cycle of death and rebirth, and, by the way, is quite common in the Neolithic art.
Newgrange has a rather precise design. Most likely, this is why all its waterproof structure remained to this day. It is particularly interesting that the entrance to this building is located in such a way that at winter solstice the rays pass through the hole and fall into a particular corridor. At this point, they cover the floor in the central room of the underground facilities.
Despite the fact that archaeologists believe this place is a tomb is still unknown, why did you choose this form. It is also not entirely clear how the researchers were able to so accurately calculate the location of the facilities, and the role played by the sun in their religious life.
