If you are going to visit the city of Volgograd in order to see its sights, we recommend you to get to the city along the Volga, for it is in the rivers that the statue of Motherland looks most impressively.

Statue of Motherland, a bit of history

First of all, it is worth noting such a little-known fact associated with the Volgograd memorial and the statue «Motherland». Namely, the fact that this statue is the central part of a rather peculiar triptych dedicated to the heroic victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. At the same time, the main, figurative element of the Motherland monument is the «smashing sword of just retribution», by analogy with the spear of St. George the Victorious depicted on the numerous arms of Russian cities, in particular the same capital of the Russian Federation of Moscow.

In the case of the Volgograd memorial, the sword that raised the Motherland above the city has its immediate relevance to the first part of this monumental triptych located in the city of Magnitogorsk, namely, to the monument to the «Rear-Front.» In the plot line of this monument, the symbolic Worker gives the Soviet Warrior the sword of victory as a kind of symbol of the invaluable contribution of the working people of the Soviet Union to the victory over the Nazi invaders, the victory that brought peace to all the peoples of Europe. And the Magnitogorsk Monument, opened on June 29, 1979, represents two bronze figures of the «Worker» and «Warrior» made in the symbolic position of the transfer of the Victory Sword. In addition to the fact that the monument itself has a height of fifteen meters, to give it a more imposing image, the monument is located on an artificial elevation, located on the bank of the Ural River, a little over eighteen meters high.

European part of the triptych

The third and final part of this monumental triptych is the monument to the Warrior-Liberator, which is located in the eastern part of the capital of Germany, Berlin, in his famous Treptow Park where the «Warrior-Liberator» holds a German girl in his arms as a symbol of the fact that Europe is liberated from » brown plague «of fascism, and the symbolic sword of the Warrior is lowered to the ground.

At the same time, according to many experts in the field of history and monumental art, many monuments of Europe dedicated to the themes of the Great Patriotic War are significantly inferior in their monumentality and expressiveness to the monument to the «Soldier-Liberator». So, that while traveling in Germany, do not forget to visit Treptow Park and not only appreciate the artistic merits of this monument, but also pay tribute to the heroic deed of the Soviet people in the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

How to get there

Traveling through the cities where the main parts of this monumental triptych are located, namely the cities of Magnitogorsk, Volgograd and Berlin, it is quite easy to visit these monuments, because they are included in almost all tourist tours in these cities.
