The most beautiful city in Norway is considered to be Stavanger. Medieval and modern industrial styles wonderfully mixed together here. Natural beauties and architectural monuments create a unique harmonic ensemble that attracts people. Besides being the most beautiful city in the world, it is also considered to be the most expensive one.
Stavanger is a coastal city and is located on the coast of the North Sea. For a long time the city was unremarkable and nothing special was heard about it. Fish trading was the primary activity of the local people. Everything has changed in the 60-s, when one of the largest oilfields was discovered in the North Sea.
Now Stavanger is an industrial city and is involved in oil production. It bear the name of Norway oil capital by right. There are several huge active oil- and gas-producing companies in the city that help the city to develop very fast.
It is not a secret that Norway is a country with very effective social support of its residents. The main advantage is free education and Stavanger is not an exception. But the prices for food, entertainment and transport rose here significantly. For example, a ticket to the cinema is about 17,3 dollars here. To buy a kilo of rice one should pay 5,7 dollars, and a dozen of eggs is about 6,8$. Such goods as meat and sugar are considered to be the most expensive in Europe.
Despite the status of the most expensive city, Stavanger is very popular among tourists. The infrastructure of the city is very well developed; there is no lack in the hotels. The climate is quite warm and there are many sights.
