Delphi town – the hub of the universe
Greece is a cradle of history. It was Greece, where all the significant antique events took place e.g. Olympic or Pythian games. The Greek town Delphi is famous for the Temple of Apollo, a famous Greek theatre and Sifnos treasures.
The place, where the Temple of Apollo was located, was considered to be holy, and a road that leaded to it was decorated with numerous different statues. It was the very place, where an oracle was standing. People were making offerings to it. Near the oracle you may find a ruined temple to a goddess of wisdom that was constructed in the fourth century.
The ancient town is located on the South-West of Phocis and is very popular among tourists. The name of the sight has a lot of meanings, but the most popular version is about a «newborn child». Such a name was given to this place because people thought that there was a hub of the universe. During the time of antiquity Delphi was a sanctuary for the people. Delphi’s oracle took part in different elections and meetings. The Pythian games were carried out in Delphi. These games were a cultural and a sport event according to Aristotle.
At the end of the era the Delphi influence was not so powerful, besides the town remained a centre of cultural and religious life. In the first century the town has lost all the significance and it was plundered by Thracian tribes.
