Ghadames is a libyan oasis-town

Libyan oasis town of Ghadames is also has a rich cultural-historical heritage with its quite unusually beautiful architecture, preserved to our times. If you look at the homes of local residents with a bird’s-eye view, they resemble honeycombs, and the entire city is comparable with a huge beehive. This impression is created by the fact that absolutely all the houses of the city are connected by special transitions between them.

Every wall, every corner of this city as well, each terrace is a part of one organism. Old quiet town has a steep white staircase, which both seem to be cool and dark. The oldest city Ghadames accurately reflects the typical Bedouin life.

Dwelling houses, most of them have three floors, which are carried out every role. The first floor is used as a storage area on the second, as a rule, there are living room, and the third is an open terrace, designed exclusively for women. Between the terraces of the houses have transitions, thanks to them, women are free to go to visit each other, and are not afraid of being seen by men.

Ghadames is located 650 km from Tripoli in Libya. The city’s population was about 10 thousand people, most of the population income is tourism. A large number of residents work for the government, and only a small portion of work in agriculture. All the rest are engaged in tourism.

Near the town there is quite an interesting place in terms of geography: there are borders of three countries, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya. In Libya there is a very ancient castle, which was built during the Ottoman Empire. Not far from it is the Turkish fortress. This city is the best shows of people to adapt to life in extreme conditions.
